Canada has in recent years seen a rise in immigrants due to the country’s many immigrant-friendly programs. One particular Canadian province that is attracting newcomers is Ontario thanks to its strong economy and diverse employment and living opportunities.
While jobs are available for immigrants looking to settle in Ontario, each immigrant still needs to put their best foot forward in order to snag a job that actually suits their skills and goals. For instance, getting a good job without the ability to speak and write English or French will be tricky.
But that’s not all. A hopeful immigrant coming into Canada with dreams of a better life must also be sure to come in under the right immigration program. Choosing the wrong one can lead to complications that frustrate the immigration and resettlement process.
What Immigration Opportunities are available in Ontario in 2019?
There are several Canadian immigration programs available to immigrants from all over the world. For those aiming specifically for Ontario, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) is a great choice because of its benefits. Said benefits include a chance at permanent residency and vast employment opportunities.
The OINP is designed to allow international students, foreign workers, and other skilled individuals with the needed education and experience to apply for a permanent residence nomination in Ontario.
Through the program, the Canadian government seeks to boost Ontario’s labor market and economic prowess.
One of the broadest categories under the OINP that an immigrant can apply under is the General Category. Through this category, Ontario employers can directly recruit foreign employees with the skills and experience that match the role they’d like to fill.
Applications must be submitted by both the prospective employer and the applying immigrant to show that both parties are eligible for the program. If the application is successful, a nomination of certification will be provided under the Ontario Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) General Category.
Some of the requirements that need to be satisfied by an immigrant applying under the Ontario PNP include:
- Two years of paid and verifiable work experience relevant to the intended occupation. The job must have been held within the past five years.
- A full-time job offer in a skilled occupation from an Ontario employer.
- The employer must also submit an Opportunities Ontario approved application
- Must not be a refugee claimant or asylum seeker
- “Joint Verification” and “Pre-Screen Position” form signed by the employer is required.
- The job must be located within Ontario
Express Entry Ontario
Another category that an immigrant can apply under is the Human Capital Priorities category, especially under the Ontario PNP Express Entry stream. This is possibly the easiest way to immigrate to Ontario with a provincial nomination.
It involves creating an Express Entry profile after which the applicant will register his/her interest in immigrating and working in the Ontario province. If the applicant is considered satisfactory, the Ontario PNP will then contact them through the Express Entry system and invite them to submit an application to the immigration program.
A successful applicant will be provided with a PNP nomination certificate through the Ontario PNP Express Entry. This will increase the applicant’s Comprehensive Ranking System score by 600 points. This should make for enough PNP Express Entry points to receive an Invitation to Apply in the next Express Entry draw.
