Top officials declared that Canada is suspending its extradition treaty with Hong Kong as per new Chinese legislation and it can boost the British immigration from the former British colony.
Despite all the protests from the people of Hong Kong and other Western nations, China has still imposed its legislation this week, which states that it is a big financial hub for them. It is announced by the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau that they will be standing with Hong Kong and will be continuing the support to Hong Kong, which is home to 3,00,000 Canadians.
This has also been said to the reporters that Canada will not permit the export of sensitive military items to Hong Kong.
He said that they are also going to suspend the Canada-Hong kong extradition treaty. Also, they are looking for new measures for immigration.
Foreign Minister Francois Philippe has said that they will be enacting a ‘secretive’ way of legislation, and Canada has been forced to rethink their existing arrangements.
“This is an important step for liberty and freedom.. we are hoping Beijing will listen to the international community,” he said via phone.
The leaders of German and the British have also expressed their concerns about the new law.
Champagne said, “it’s a deep action for capitals of the world to know how to best tackle the actions of China.”
The Embassy of China, which is in Ottawa, is still not commenting on this.
This dispute among these two nations was from late 2018 when Canadian police detained Huawei Technologies Co chief financial officer on a U.S warrant.
Immigration lawyers say there should be an imposition of the new law in which families should be relocated and enquired.
Lawyers also say that Ottawa and Hong Kong residents’ possible measures should be favored who have families in Canada. Also, they should allow more people to apply for work programs so that they can gain citizenship in the future.
